He caught my attention with his slovenly cool looking while I was walking back from a bathroom break on set. The motor home was parked outside Yoyogi gym where well groomed short trees line up the curbside.
The guy wears a vintage Bruce lee t shirt.
His left hand held a half pint cup that’s usually used for ice cream or frozen margaritas. Inside it is full of cigarette butts. Looks like he’s cleaning up the street. He walks a few feet down and finds another cigarette. Picks it up using a pair of chopsticks he has and examines it carefully. “This one looks long enough” says his facial expression.
He looks for a light in his left pocket then his right pocket. Looks like he also collects lighters. He has three in his hand. He lights a cigarette butt slightly looking up to the sky.
A handkerchief is wrapped around his head under the baseball cap to keep his back of the neck from the sunlight. He must have been out all day in this 35 degree Celsius Tokyo heat.
At this point my eyes are so fixed on what he’s going to do next and I have my left hand on the window and a camera pushed against it so the camera don’t capture inside the motorhome.
The man looked so content.
The motorhome drove away to get to the next location.
